Norm was born in the city of Orange in Southern California to his father, a doctor of Forensic medicine and his mother, a lawyer of great repute in the Federal high court system. Fortunately, he was switched at birth and was raised by two talented musicians: his mother, a pianist and singer and his father and trumpeteer and arranger.

He first learned to play the trumpet...at gunpoint. He played his first scale when he was three years old. It was also his last scale. Actually, he did learn a few more as he played trumpet for the next fourteen years, being the principle trumpet player his junior and senior years at Santa Ana High School.

Early on in elementry school, Norm had aspirations of being a rock star, his idols being Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran and all of the Go-Go's. He learned important rock facts like: RUSH stood for Ruled Under Satan's Hand. He also developed an appreciation for classical music, though at the time he abhored it.

It wasn't until High School that he started to actually enjoy classical music. More than anything, this led to his fascination with the piano. He tried to take a few lessons during his sophomore year, but quit after a few of those, so he just taught himself. This is not recommended, as it is a terrible waste of prescious time. His passion for the keyboard ebbed and waned through the years, but two things remained constant. His love for macoroni and cheese, and the fact that he loved to write music.

He wrote music from the first time he touched the keyboard. He made a few random recordings of his meanderings as he felt his way around the keyboard. He would spend his lunch-time in high school in the band room on the piano. He would sometimes attempt to entertain his friends with some of his compositions. One of these friends was Richard Todd, whose musical tastes were strickingly similar to Norm's. So they talked.

Near the end of High School and for a few years after, Norm held many different jobs and wore many different hats. He loves hats. His first job was at a Togo's restaurant. Then he moved on to Arby's, AMC theateres, Bank of America, the United States Post Office (look out), Kingston Technology, Barnes and Nobles...you get the point. During this time, he also worked with Richard as a shuttle-bus driver for the local symphony. This is where he met Don McHale. Don and Richard hit it off right away, debating over philosphies of life and Nietze.

At the same time, Norm was involved in a few other band projects, playing keyboards for a couple of bands with a talented drummer by the name of Trevor Skipworth. He did a few random recording jobs for some local musicians and then hung up the band idea for awhile.
